Occupationally Consumed

I had some work to do this weekend, but I also had other plans of a more social nature. There are always ways to balance work and social elements in life. The trick is to not overbook on any one side of the scale and not mix the two. This is not the way to do it.

Can you guess what line of work is being practiced here?

Am I Still Mad?

As the today’s work day progressed, a problem came to light. Someone in my office made a mistake on a rush order that has already been delivered to the customer. It turns out the wrong line items were quoted, and that one line item was holding up the customer’s project. Now I have to get to the customer’s job site at 6:00 AM to deliver the proper material. Is it wrong that I wanted to slap the person that made the mistake (repeatedly)? I was in a pretty crappy mood the whole drive home just thinking about being forced to bed early and wake up before the sun even makes its first appearance.

Then I came home to this.

My Nikon D90 arrived! (If you’re at all into photography, you seriously need to check this one out. It’s a gem.) Suddenly spirits were lifted, and I became care free. I ripped into the box after dinner and held it in my hands. Although I was alone in the room, I know I had a grin on my face. Then I realized that since I have to go to bed shortly, I shouldn’t bother diving into the manuals to see all the features available. My demeanor soured again.

It made me realize how easily work can affect our mood. That’s why it’s important not to let work consume or define us. That’s why we have hobbies, like photography. Unfortunately for me, my new toy showed up at an inopportune time, but I’m trying to take it in stride. It’s just one day where things didn’t go right, not the end of the world. I’ll be tired, but after I get through tomorrow, my life is my own again…at least for two days.

Just Call Me Boo Radley

I am a shut-in. I have been working all weekend on a design project for work. In the past thirty-six hours, I have been out of the house for a single hour. The family room has been my domain for 2/3 of that time. I’ve watched movie after movie while working. Combined with what I’ve watched earlier this week while working, the list really adds up.

The original Star Wars Trilogy.
Mission Impossible 1 & 2. I don’t own the third one.
The Wedding Singer.
The Rock.
Family Guy Movie.

I haven’t been alone. Michelle has been by my side for a good amount of the time, the whole while complaining that she is bored, but still by my side in spite of this. I did have to set up the Wii Fit for her to play a couple of times.

The only thing that made this weekend bearable was the fact that I got to stay on my computer the whole time, with my new sticker. Unfortunately as soon as I put it on, I realized I’ll probably be replacing this laptop within a year. Mell, I need another one!

Thicker Than Water…Saltier and Redder Too

My parents and I took a trip up north to visit my brother. He just turned thirty a couple weeks ago. While that may seem completely normal to you, this is almost strange to me. Our family has always been hands off, coming and going as we please as individuals, never worrying about being forced to attend family functions. I think it has something to do with my brother getting married earlier this year. We don’t want to appear weird to my sister-in-law. So we get together and almost pretend that we’ve always been super close and involved in each others’ lives. I guess we’re a real family now. I’m not opposed to this. It will just take some getting used to for sure.

Speaking of getting used to things, I did a double take every time Joy referred to my parents as Mom and Dad. I knew my parents were the only mom and dad around when we were talking, but it is so foreign for me to hear any other voice address my parents that way other than my brother.

So this trip I started talking about…fun. Saturday we took a day trip to Carmel, where we stuffed our faces.

Brunch on the patio before heading to Carmel. Delicious.

The Mission at Carmel.

There was a wedding going on at the church. That means free entrance.

Father Junípero Serra.

Is this why they call the area Pebble Beach?

There are so many golf courses in this area.

Some of the wildlife.

The first rule is don’t feed the animals. I hope these tourists get rabies and learn.

My mom kept seeing real estate sale signs and wanting to stop to look. I don’t think these homes are in our price range.

Cypress Point.

The Lone Cypress. It’s a hoax. Out of frame on the left is another one.

Pebble Beach Golf Course. It was a gorgeous day, so we had dessert on the patio.

Trio of Custards.

Apple something or other with vanilla ice cream.

Chocolate cake. This is before we poured the hot fudge over it.

After Carmel we headed back towards my Union City, but despite the fact that we had eaten three meals already, we stopped for dinner. When we got back to my brother’s place, I jumped in the car and headed to San Francisco to hang out with Kyung. I got to see his new place, and I even picked up something extra when visiting him.

He gave me The Perfect Pushup. He said he wasn’t using it and gave me a deal.

Here is half of the set, being used as The Perfect Doorstop. Kyung is pretending to be The Perfect Floor Mat. In all fairness there was lots of whiskey and beer. I didn’t even remember taking any pictures that night.

Sunday was spent visiting my mom’s aunt, playing the Wii, and ended with dinner. It was a perfectly lazy day to follow the busy one in Carmel and San Francisco. Today was spent visiting a business colleague and friend of ours and driving back down home.

Good food. Good friends. Good family. Good times.

Heineken Mini Keg

This weekend I was handed a brilliant gift, an almost full Heineken Keg. Knowing that gifts like these only come once in a while, I invited some friends over to share in this gift from the heavens. Let me tell you something about these mini kegs. They suck. You have to hold the nozzle down just right or you get tons of foam. Even if you hold down the nozzle just right, you can’t dole out cup after cup of beer, because the damn thing apparently needs a rest period or it gives you more foam.

It’s a good thing Kyung brought over some bottles of beer so we could enjoy the nice weather and the view with some beer that didn’t suck. Someone needs to win the lottery, so we can do this every day. Also, someone should buy some hammocks.

Thanksgiving Recap

Well, I have thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend. I’ll do this in reverse.

I got this really high score in TextTwist. I was a little bit mad when I lost on a word that isn’t even English.

The burger sampler at Hennessey’s. Just plain awesome.

The guy who took this picture was quite drunk. He couldn’t figure out how to use my camera, because he saw no buttons on it. He was holding the damn thing upside down.

We need to stay here during the summer and hang out here.

Other than going out on Saturday night, I got a suit, ate a lot of food, saw my family, did a ridiculous amount of sleeping, watched a few episodes of The Office, and did a whole lot of nothing, . It was an excellent weekend, exactly how every one should be…four days long and filled with nothing.
