And then I went to Michigan

The reason we went to Chicago in the first place was because I had work in Michigan like I do almsot every year. I bid Michelle farewell and drove three hours west into the heart of Michigan.

At least the beds were comfy. Have you ever tried a Sleep Number Bed? It’s interesting. It sort of reminds me of a hospital bed but without having to have your butt showing out the back of your gown.

This is what I did for two days. It was school all over again.

It wasn’t all work though. 1964, The Beatles tribute band!

You can see that they’re pretty good. Ringo actually drums like Ringo and Paul is actually left handed.

There was one very bright spot to my visit to Michigan though. I found out that Bell’s Brewery is twenty miles outside of where I visit, and they have a second brand that resides in the city of Kalamazoo, MI where I stay every time I’m out there. Here I am with a taster. I think the tasting board is Lake Michigan or one of the other Great Lakes.

As you can see, they’re known for their stouts, and they are good at them. Their Two Hearted IPA and dry hopped lager Quinannan Falls are great beers too.

Don’t cry for me. I’m already dead.

I was asked what my best gift this year was, and the answer was really simple. It was Love, a CD that Michelle’s parents got for me. It was actually my only gift.

Fortunately the one gift I did receive is awesome! It’s a mashup of The Beatles on The Beatles. The album takes you through the entire journey of The Beatles and their music. The music was also used in the Cirque du Soleil show.

It’s in my car right now. When I’m not listening to gangster rap, I prefer The Beatles.

Another Weekend Gone

Although my wallet hasn’t stopped bleeding money, I continue to go out to eat and drink with friends. The verdict? Totally worth it.

This was part of a year end work dinner we had for our employees. It was a way to celebrate even though it’s been a tough year, and also spread some culture to the employees. There was actually a request to remove the heads from the chicken plates so the employees wouldn’t be grossed out, but Chinese restaurants never listen. When they say you get a whole chicken, you get a whole chicken.

Sunday was the Lobster Festival in Redondo Beach, complete with a wake boarding competition in the lagoon.

Darn. That lobster makes the ring look tiny. We’re eating shrimp from here on out.

They even had some live entertainment in the form of the Fab Four. Did I just find a wedding band?

It’s Official. Music is Dead.

The GRAMMY Foundation has released the nominations for the 51st GRAMMY Awards. I honestly could not tell you which artists have actually won these awards. I could care less. If the artists is any good, I will listen to them, whether or not they have a shelf full of awards or not. This year, however, I came across this particular category in this year’s nominations by chance.

Paul McCartney is being nominated for his vocals in I Saw Her Standing There in a live appearance he did this year. This is absolutely absurd. I believe The Beatles are the greatest band ever, but give me a break. This is a song that was released forty five years ago! This is Paul performing it, probably for the 5,000th time.

It’s not McCartney’s fault. Mainstream music has gone to crap recently. There are good bands and artists releasing good music there, but no one bothers to even look for them. They just look at what sells and assume that’s the best out there. I don’t know who it will be, but I can’t wait for the next artist that comes along and wakes everyone up from this music coma.
