I’m an uncle!

I promise to be the best uncle possible, and not the creepy uncle that lives in a van with no windows in the alley behind the record store. I’ve even started to prepare for my first talk with niece on an important subject that you can never have too early in a child’s life.

Pixel Pushers

On the same night we went to check out the Sanrio Small Gift event, we decided to check out the opening of another exhibit around the corner from our place. Giant Robot and SCION put together an event called Pixel Pushers. It was centered around a SCION that Giant Robot modeled after the Famicom.

Pachinko machines were available for people to play with at the exhibit.

They had a Giant Robot created video game there called Return of the Quack.

Here are some of the super high definition characters from the game.

The plans for designing the Famicom car.

The Giant Robot Famicom car. If you look at the from left headlight, it’s lit up because it’s a projector pushing Return of Quack to a wall in the exhibit.

The car is designed with controllers in place. Did you notice the ignition and the outer door handles are designed after the buttons on the original controllers?

There was some interesting 8-bit art there as well.

I don’t know what the actual name of this piece was, but I like to call it, “Long Live 8-Bit!”

Dissection charts of some of our favorite 8-bit characters.

It was a great way for dads to share their love of video games with their kids.

The back of the car flipped down too with a Wii and second projector, where the exhaust pipe would normally be located.

With all the great new technology coming out surrounding video games, I don’t think 8-bit will ever die. People love the original games and will always create new games in the 8-bit fashion to honor them. I am behind that mentality all the way.

Awesome on many levels.

The fact that LEGO has expanded beyond just the simple square blocks I grew up with a kid is incredible, but the franchise they’ve created by doing computer graphic based videos is amazing. Here’s a film based off of their CG characters and  involving Star Wars no less. It also doesn’t hurt that they make Jar Jar Binks a total loser, what he really was in the actual Star Wars movies.

My New Tee

It doesn’t get cooler than this.

The Building Blocks of Marriage

I ran across this wedding ring a while back. While I think the flat edges would cut up my hand, I still think it’s pretty cool. I’m not sure I’d get a gold one, but if someone would start making these in plastic with rounded edges, I might wear one.

I could get one for Michelle and she could put one of these guys on the ring. Then she would always have me with her.

Die, Inbox! Die!

How many of you are like Michelle and have 50,000+ emails in your inbox on GMail? This bugs me to no end. How can you keep things organized when there are this many emails to sift through? I used to log into her account (with her permission of course) and set up filters, add labels, and archive old messages for her. Now I’ve just given up.

Fortunately I ran across this website and browser extension (sorry Safari and Chrome only) called 0Boxer. Once you install the extension it gives you points for replying, deleting, and archiving messages. Plus it gives you extra points when you completely clear the inbox. It appeals to the competitive nature in people to get points that have no inherent value.

Now you can keep a clean inbox and be a total nerd while doing it!

Because I Couldn’t Find a Death Star Mobile

Until Michelle and I decide to have children this will hang in our living room.

This will keep the bad dreams away, while at the same time educating our children about the ways of the Na’vi.

Why, yes that is Neytiri riding on her mountain banshee, Seze.

Way Smarter than a Smart Car

I have a new hero. This guy, who built a drivable R2-D2. One day his kids will realize how uncool their dad is and resent him for being such a geek. He will respond, “I am  your father.” I hope one day to do as good of a father.

Like tennis, marriage is good when you have a good partner.

And I have the best partner ever.

Our pastor that married us said I was the most calm groom he’s ever seen. That’s not because I had accepted my fate and was ready to die. It’s because I picked an awesome wife. We had store credit after returning some wedding gifts that got duplicated, so we got this.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to crack open a beer, play a few games of Starcraft 2, and think about how much more awesome my wife is than yours. Okay, maybe no beer since it’s 7AM.

Build-A-Bear just got a whole lot cooler.

I never understood having children’s parties at Build-A-Bear…until now.

Thank you for blurring the lines between gender segregation. This is my safety line in case we have daughters. Now I will be able to lure them to The Dark Side. It starts with Star Wars teddy bears. Then, limited edition action figures.

Chewbacca must be the worst Star Wars Build-A-Bear character ever.
